♪ Kelela x Hikaru Utada - Washed Away (Random J Mashup)

This is my manifestation mashup for Kelela and Hikaru Utada one day doing a song together. There’s something about their vibes and approaches to music that I think would really work when combined.

“Boukyaku” was one of my favourite songs on Utada’s 2016 comeback album, Fantôme. I really liked how the song took its time — it’s over a minute until we hear any vocals. Kelela’s “Washed Away” has a very similar vibe. Yet despite these similarities, both songs are about the complete opposite things. “Boukyaku” is about an inability to let something go, where-as “Washed Away” is about already being on your journey of letting things go.
