When the Nebula Romance: Part 1 previews first hit Kawayuka’s Internet, “Cosmic Treat” was the song that made me go ‘YEP’ and got me excited. But then the album dropped, I heard the full thing and I was immediately deflated. It’s like Yasutaka Nakata had no idea how to best start and end the song. And the whole thing just came and went. So, I set about trying to make an extended mix with a different intro and different ending and other bits and bobs to round the song out a little more and set the tone.
One thing I will say, is that the music video for “Cosmic Treat” does a great job distracting from any of the shortcomings of the song. The album version being short ‘n’ sweet works in favour of the video, so that’s definitely something. The hook of the song is so damn good that it does a WHOLE lot of heavy lifting. One thing about Nakata, he gon’ give you a good hook if nothing else. Lemme just sit here and act like those hook-less songs on Cosmic Explorer and Future Pop do not exist.
